Omnixol Wall & Floor Sealer Instructions for Use

Omnixol Wall & Floor Sealer is used after successful cleaning to provide a final seal on suitable mineral wall and floor surfaces.

Particularly after heating oil or mineral oil contamination, it is essential that the affected substrate has first been thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry sufficiently.

The sealer does not replace deep cleaning. Any remaining oil, odor or moisture contamination should not simply be sealed beneath a coating.

Applications of Omnixol Wall and Floor Sealer on mineral substrates

1. Applications of the Wall & Floor Sealer

Omnixol Wall & Floor Sealer is intended for suitable mineral substrates that require a final protective treatment after cleaning.

It is particularly suitable for remediated wall, floor and ceiling surfaces in basements, heating and utility rooms, and former oil tank rooms.

Not suitable for plasterboard.

Typical suitable substrates and applications include:

  • former oil tank rooms
  • heating and utility rooms
  • basement walls and floors
  • concrete surfaces
  • screed
  • brick and masonry surfaces
  • remediated wall, floor and ceiling surfaces
Requirements before applying Omnixol Wall and Floor Sealer to mineral surfaces

2. Requirements Before Sealing

After previous oil or heating oil contamination, the sealer must only be applied once the preceding cleaning process has been completed.

The substrate must be clean, dry, sound and free from relevant oil and cleaning residues.

Any clearly noticeable original oil odor should be further investigated and treated before sealing.

The substrate should:

  • be free from relevant oil and cleaning residues
  • be completely dry
  • no longer emit a clearly noticeable original oil odor
  • be sound and free from loose material
  • be sufficiently absorbent for the coating

In cases of heating oil or mineral oil contamination, the actual remediation should first have been completed, for example with Omnixol FX100 .

Important: Sealing too early can trap remaining moisture or odor-causing substances within the building material. The Wall & Floor Sealer therefore does not replace prior deep cleaning.

3. Check the Dryness of the Substrate

The substrate must be sufficiently dry before sealing.

As an additional indication, a test hole may be drilled in suitable solid masonry.

Dry, loose drill dust that falls freely from the hole indicates a dry area. Damp or greasy drill dust, by contrast, indicates that the substrate should be allowed to dry further.

Note: A single test hole cannot reliably determine the moisture content of an entire building component. For larger areas, unknown wall constructions or suspected residual moisture, the substrate moisture should also be professionally assessed.

Before drilling, it must also be ensured that no cables, pipes, waterproofing or other sensitive building components are present in the intended area.

4. Prepare the Surface

Before application, dust, loose material and other residues must be completely removed from the surface.

Suitable tools include a stiff brush or other cleaning tools that will not unnecessarily damage the surface.

The aim is to create a clean, firm and sound surface to which the sealer can be applied evenly.

Using Omnixol Wall and Floor Sealer undiluted or diluted 1 to 1 with water on highly absorbent brick

5. Use the Sealer Undiluted or Diluted

Omnixol Wall & Floor Sealer is normally applied undiluted.

On highly absorbent mineral materials such as brick, it may be diluted with water at a ratio of 1 : 1 for the relevant coat if required.

Substrate / Application Recommendation
suitable substrate with normal absorbency undiluted
highly absorbent substrate, e.g. brick dilute 1 : 1 with water if required
Applying Omnixol Wall and Floor Sealer evenly with a pressure sprayer brush or masonry brush

6. Apply the Wall & Floor Sealer

Depending on the surface, a pressure sprayer, brush or masonry brush can be used for application.

The sealer should be applied evenly to the prepared surface.

Runs, puddles and unnecessarily heavy accumulations of material should be avoided.

  1. Check the substrate for dryness and stability.
  2. Completely remove loose residues and dust.
  3. Prepare the sealer according to the substrate.
  4. Apply the first coat evenly.
  5. Allow sufficient time for the coat to dry.
  6. Then apply any additional required coats.
Applying two to three coats of Omnixol Wall and Floor Sealer at intervals of four to five hours

7. Number of Coats

For an even build-up, two to three coats are recommended.

Allow approximately 4 to 5 hours between coats.

The next coat should only be applied once the previous coat has dried sufficiently.

Depending on the substrate, absorbency, room temperature and humidity, the actual drying time between individual coats may vary.

Allowing Omnixol Wall and Floor Sealer to dry completely after the final coat

8. Allow to Dry Completely

After the final coat, the sealer must be allowed to dry completely before the treated surface is further processed or subjected to heavier use.

Ensure adequate ventilation during drying.

The sealer reaches its intended condition only after it has dried completely.

Actual drying time depends, among other things, on:

  • room temperature
  • humidity
  • absorbency of the substrate
  • amount applied
  • number of coats applied

9. Clean Tools After Use

Pressure sprayers, brushes, masonry brushes and other tools used should be thoroughly cleaned with water immediately after application.

Once completely dry, the sealer is considerably more difficult to remove from tools and equipment.

When using pressure sprayers, the hose, valve and spray nozzle should also be thoroughly rinsed with water immediately after use.

10. Important Information

The Wall & Floor Sealer is a final treatment. It should only be used once the actual cleaning process has been fully completed and the substrate is sufficiently dry.
  • Apply the sealer only after cleaning has been completed.
  • The substrate must be sufficiently dry before application.
  • Existing oil or diesel contamination must not simply be coated over.
  • Any clearly noticeable remaining odor should be further investigated and treated before sealing.
  • Do not apply to loose, unstable or unsound substrates.
  • Not suitable for plasterboard.
Protective measures when applying Omnixol Wall and Floor Sealer

11. Safety During Application

Suitable personal protective measures should be used according to the specific working conditions.

These include in particular protective gloves, eye protection and adequate ventilation.

When using spray application, avoid deliberately inhaling the spray mist.

  • wear protective gloves
  • use eye protection
  • do not deliberately inhale spray mist
  • when spraying, consider suitable respiratory protection according to the working conditions
  • ensure adequate ventilation
  • observe the current safety data sheet

Questions About Sealing?

If you are unsure whether a surface is ready to be sealed or whether further cleaning or drying is required first, we are happy to help you assess the situation.

Helpful information includes the type of substrate, previous contamination and cleaning measures, the dimensions of the area and, where possible, a few photos.
